So what was behind your decision to quit smoking?
It’s been effecting my larynx and my singing. And I think it might be wrong to depend too hard on any chemicals that make you feel like you can function, I don’t really want to be a slave to anything… except my muse.
Speaking of muses, it’s also been rumored that there’s a new little lady in your life, would you care to comment on that at all?
Sally Sandoval is her name, she’s just a great person. I met her on a TV show that I was working on for NBC “It’s Not About Me”. She was working as an actress on there when I met her. She’s a really great artist and plays bass in her own band and we’ve been having a great time. She’s got a great six year old son named Nathan who’s part of the family and it’s been really great.
So how’s Trainwreck's album coming along… can you tell us anything about it?
Actually, I record today, I’m working on that with John King of the Dust Brothers, and we’re just working as fast as we can, which is pretty slow, but it’s going to be mind blowing, it’s going to be so good… really really good. If you’ve heard just the tracks we’ve done so far, I think you can see where it’s going. You have heard those haven’t you?
Hehe no actually, JR is gonna mail me a copy any day now, I’m waitin!
Well, it’s not even quite done, but its really a lot of fun, we’ve been working really hard on it.
Now John King has worked with industry greats like Beck, The Beastie Boys…not to mention Hanson... how'd he come to be the producer of Trainwreck’s first album?
Well you know, the Dust Brothers produced the Tenacious D album and John and I got to be buddies. He’s just a really great talented guy and we like to create stuff. He’s been really amazing, a really, really great guy.
If you had to pick one, which is your favorite Trainwreck song?
I think it’s “Rock Responsibly” by me and Lance.
By the way, is Lance going to be able to make it on the East Coast tour this time around?
He’s very sensitive, he’s very much a diva… he almost hard balled me out of coming. He said if he wasn’t in the publicity shot for the East coast tour he wasn’t going to come. So a very, very tough negotiator, but we’re lucky that we got him. |
