Kick'in it with Klip Calhoun an interview by Tenacious Joe
.
To start off, What were you like as a kid? I was pretty advanced, I was quite precocious actually, I thought all the kids around me were pretty immature. I wore glasses and thought I was smart and talented you know, but then I sort of got more into sports and kind of became more of a renaissance character aiming to excel in many different areas. You started playing your first instrument by the time you were eight, did you ever expect to rise to this level as a musician early on? Of course not, I was just playing for fun Was there ever a moment when you kind of realized… “wow, I finally made it”? Uh....you know there’s all kinds of moments… the first time you play to a crowd, the first time someone sings along with your song, the first time someone recognizes you, the first time you get a record deal. You know... all kinds of things. Is it true that a 7up Gold commercial was your first acting gig..? Well, professional yeah. So how’d that happen? Well, I got this alcoholic commercial agent that lived in “The Valley” and it was actually the first audition I went on. I just auditioned and felt it, and got the gig. So what was your role like? I played kind of a slacker waiter who walks into a fancy restaurant with a bunch of attitude to the tune of “Wild Thing”. I used to have a tape of it, but it got lost in the archives. I’m sure somebody has it somewhere. I took it from my mom, that’s why she doesn’t have it... the lost classic. I think I look like I’m about 13 in it. As a young actor/musician did you ever come across hard times? [laughs] Come across them?... that’s the way of life. Yeah, I spent a lot of years working fifty jobs trying to make something happen, this way and that. But I definitely got a little thin there. What was the worst thing you ever had to do for money? Work… I hate working. I hate having to sacrifice my valuable time to be a wage slave for the rich.
